Let me ask you , how easy is it for you to connect with people in your profession circle. People you have met in a conference or a meeting or just came across LinkedIn ?
My entire career is based on Professional Networking!! But let me be honest with you, even I got introduced to the term Professional Networking a bit late in my professional journey . But since then my life has not just been full of experiences , opportunities and inspiration.
I understand a lot of you might find it a little difficult and awkward to randomly walk to someone and start talking .So, let me make it easy for you.
Let’s start with understanding this first : Networking is not about pitching or collecting contacts it’s about building real connections in your professional circle.
I still remember my first attempt at networking. I nervously sent a cold message to someone I admired, simply writing ” Hi there . It’s an amazing work your are doing . I would love to know more about your journey.”
The next time, I did it differently. I followed their work, shared a thoughtful comment, and asked a specific question related to their expertise. That conversation didn’t just lead to a connection it sparked a collaboration!
Here’s what I’ve learned about connecting authentically:
⭐ Your intention must reflect in your opening message. Make it sound professional and the intention is expressed well .
⭐ Be clear and genuine :Trust me no one would want to reply to ” Hello, How are you . Or Lovely DP . kind of messages. Start with a structured statement that has a complete message.
⭐ Give Space It’s very important to wait for the reply from the receiver and follow up messages should not be rushed unless urgent
The network I have created is still active in these 17 years of my professional journey. They are meaningful and enriching to me . I can . you can do it too !!
Reached out for a 1:1 consultation if you need more clarity or hand holding in working on your Networking Skills .
